Inspiration on a cold winter night

Well, I'm back in my native county, Canada and what a beautiful sight!  Feels like the holidays, unfortunately I will be working mostly over the holiday's so while I do that, I feel I should post some things on my newly developed blog!  I found out about this artist from another blog and was mesmerised, enjoy, the writing at the end of this post is by him and incredibly touching. enjoy x

‘For me it is the idea of the word that produces all images. It is the key sign for all forms of moulding and organizing. When I speak using a theoretical language, I try to induce the impulses of this power, the power of the whole understanding of language which for me is the spiritual understanding of evolution.’
But language is not to be understood simply in terms of speech and words. That is our current drastically reduced understanding of language, a parallel to the reduced understanding of politics and economics. Beyond language as a verbalization lies a world of sound and impulses, a language of primary sound, without semantic content, but laden with completely different levels of information.
Every form of life speaks a language, untapped and unheard.

A Love Supreme

John Coltrane's 'A Love Supreme' album, and the amazing backdrop of light falling over the window.  Inspiration for this shoot.  I like to think that I can be poetic at times, but find myself amused at the lack of poetry I actually can produce!

I luckily had the privilege to see my dear friend Jeff before he went home for the holiday's, and had time to photograph him, testing again with large format.  This time in colour.

More will be up soon....

still testing

So Large Format is still a bit alien to me, but I continue on testing.  Not very often as the film costs about forty quid for 10 shots.  I still am completely in love with it and hope to one day own one.  These are just a few polaroids of amanda and some dried out herbs...

some inspiration for the day

I have done a lot of research today, unlike most days but today I spent my time searching for images all over the internet that inspired me in any which way.  I really can't believe how many wonderful photographers that are out there.  It's frightening yet amazing.  So, here we go, the images that I have fallen in love with today...

Múm, Green Grass Of Tunnel

Romaine Brooks

Romaine Brooks has to be one of my top five favourite painters.  She understood the importance of women's liberation and equal rights and has changed attitudes of homosexuality since the 19th century.   Her paintings were exhibited for the first time in America in 1971, one year after she died in Nice, France. A woman with attitude and a survivor, she had style and portrayed this through her paintings.  I am a great lover of Romaine.

And here is a photo of her studio where she created these paintings.
